To purchase a low-cost spay/neuter voucher, please call us at (719) 783-2138. A volunteer will return your call. (The cost is $20 for cats; dogs under 30 lbs - $20; dogs from 30 to 50 lbs - $30; dogs 50-75 lbs - $40; dogs over 75 lbs - $50). Purchase a voucher, take your pet to one of our participating local veterinarians for the spay/neuter surgery, and Pet Project pays the remainder of the surgery cost. (NOTE: we do not pay for shots, there is a limit of 2 per family, and no breeders or rescue groups.)

Here are some interesting statistics: A pair of breeding cats and their offspring can produce 420,000 kittens over a seven-year period. (Feral cats have an average of 1.4 litters per year, with an average 3.5 live births in each litter. That equals 4.9 kittens per year, per female feral cat. )

Every day, 10,000 humans are born in the United States, while 70,000 kittens and puppies are born. As long as these birth rates exist, there will never be enough homes for all of the animals, resulting in the euthanization of many of them.
 
Prevention through spay and neuter is the key to reducing the pet overpopulation and gaining ground on becoming a no-kill society where killing homeless pets is no longer socially acceptable.
